Spring Cleanse Mixed Green Salad

Green mixed salad

This is an easy salad to eat all of it in one sitting. Put it in a big bowl and just eat it. I do that all of the time.

Spinach was a superfood even before there was the term superfood I’m referring of course to Popeye the Sailor Man. One can of the green stuff and he turned into muscle popping tornado of energy. Even without Popeye’s recommendation, spinach contains more nutrients per calorie than any other food on the earth. It is loaded with vitamins like A, K, D, and E and a host of trace minerals and is a good source of omega 3 fatty acid.

Romaine lettuce has been called ‘the perfect weight loss food’ and ‘rabbit food’ but it is so much more. With amazing healing benefits and 20% protein by calories, it could be called ‘gorilla food’ instead.  It is low in calories and high in fiber and cellulose. It is heart-healthy and has a great ratio of omega-3 fatty acids.  Lettuce is a great alkaline-forming food that is low on the glycemic index and I like to pile it on this lettuce sandwich.

Celery is a negative calorie food, meaning it takes the body more calories to digest it than the food itself contains making it a very good food for weight loss.  One stalk of celery has only a few calories because it is full of healthy cellulose. It is 95% water, very alkaline, and filled with fiber.  Its weight loss benefits are well known but you would be surprised at its other amazing properties.

Colourful bell peppers add a sweet, light crunchiness to a meal.  They are excellent for weight loss and can help prevent cancer. Bell peppers are full of vitamin c which is helpful for repairing bones and preventing anemia. 

Sprouts offer lots of great health benefits including; plant sources of protein, High Energy food, Powerful Minerals, and needed vitamins.  And the best part is that they are easy and inexpensive to make your own.  Learn how to sprout your own nuts and seeds.

Pumpkin seeds are so good that I add them to many of my meals. The bonus nutrient value is that they are the only seed that is alkaline-forming. Filled with lots of minerals, are a good source of vitamin k and zinc, and contains phytosterols and L-tryptophan. They are also a great source of vitamin e and vitamin b while being a great protein.

Almonds – Almonds are very tasty and so beneficial for our health. They are my favourite nut; most mornings I add 7 to 10 almonds to my breakfast.

To get the most health benefits from Garlic, let it sit for a minimum of 5 minutes, after cutting and before eating or cooking.  Waiting for 5 – 10 minutes allows the health-promoting allicin to form.  If you do not let it sit, allicin is never formed, so it is worth the wait. Add some garlic to your soups, stews, and salad dressing recipes to lower high cholesterol.  Sometimes it is easier to use some Organic Freeze Dried Garlic so no chopping and peeling.


1 handful, Spinach
1/2 head, Romaine Lettuce, chopped
1 medium bunch of Cilantro or Parsley, chopped
3 Celery pieces, chopped
1 medium Green Pepper, sliced
1 cup Broccoli Sprouts
1 green onion, chopped
1/4 cup mixed Pumpkin seeds and almonds roasted

1 clove garlic, minced (optional)


  1. Mix greens and vegetables together in a bowl.
  2. Serve with Light Lemon Olive Oil Salad Dressing
  3. Sprinkle pumpkin seeds and almonds on top.


Serving Tip: If you are planning on this lasting for the next day keep the pumpkin seeds and almonds separate.  A mix of the basic ingredients will last 3 days in the fridge.
