Cranberry Sauce (sugar free)

Cranberries are one of the Powerfoods

The health benefits of cranberries is almost totally depleted when generous amounts of sugar is added. Thus the cranberry cannot provide you with it’s full phytonutrient benefits. To discover all the benefits of cranberries click here:  Cranberry Benefits

Usually the problem with cranberry sauce is that it is full of sugar. Here is my version of the popular Cranberry Sauce without any sugar which is no easy thing when is comes to cranberries as they are so tart.

Sugar and cranberries:

  • 1 cup of fresh cranberries = about 50 calories.
  • 1 cup of cranberry sauce contains = 400 calories.

CRANBERRY SAUCE (sugar free)

1 Package whole, organic cranberries (fresh, not frozen)
1 Organic Apple, cored and chopped
1 Cup Apple juice
1/4 Cup Organic, Brown Rice Syrup
1 tsp Liquid Stevia
Pinch of salt

1.    Put all ingredients into a sauce pan and let simmer for a few moments.
2.    Remove and let cool.
3.    Taste and add more Stevia or Brown Rice Syrup if you like it sweeter.

What about using organic agave syrup as a sweetener? Does that deplete the benefits also?

  6. Diana Herrington November 27, 2011 at 3:26 pm

Jeannette, you can use organic agave syrup in place of the rice syrup but do read more about it here:
